ELLES BAILEY — Woman Like Me

The “plum-peach” voiced, Bristol based, English singer-songwriter ELLES BAILEY — whose raw live sound can be incredibly intimate at times but always comes filled with vital emotion — has released her latest single, titled ‘Woman Like Me’ ( Friday 3rd April ) video shared below.

Woman Like Me was written with my long-term touring guitarist Joe Wilkins and my good friend Tamara Stewart,” Elles says,

Woman Like Me Elles Bailey
Woman Like Me Elles Bailey – The sexy vocal draws the listener closer and closer…

The song is about being a confident, independent woman, and about being comfortable in your own skin. Yes — there is a man in the story — but this song is most certainly about the woman! I aspire to be this woman: to break away from the torments of my own mind and society’s idea of how a woman ‘should be’.

It was recorded with my touring band [Joe Wilkins on guitar; Jonny Henderson on organ; Matthew Waer on bass; Matthew Jones on drums] as part of the ‘Blacktop Companion’ sessions, when we had 20 mins to spare at the end of the session. Everything was done live and the only thing we added was to bring in Tania Hancheroff on background vocals to add some extra sparkle.”

We had a listen:

There’s a light rattan groove, custardy organ stains, a great Telecaster slide, and the band produces a yeasty hothouse milieux for the song to luxuriate into. . .  but it’s the sexy vocal that draws the listener closer and closer. On this, her voice is over-ripe jargonelle — moist with honey sweetness and succulent apricot — and filled with libidinous confidence.

For smart and smooth Americana / Blues / Country fans.
