The award-winning and critically acclaimed guitarist & singer SUSAN SANTOS (originally from Badajoz, Spain — later, Madrid) recorded ‘The L.A. Sessions’ during December 2019 in Los Angeles, California. It was produced by Fabrizio Grassi (SUPERSONIC BLUES MACHINE) in North Hollywood, Los Angeles (hence the title) and mastered by the legendary Peter Doell (Miles Davis, Toto, Céline Dion.)
All songs in the 4-song extended play were written by Susan and feature legendary Starbreaker bassist Grossi and famed session drummer Tony Morra.
“The L.A. Sessions” follow her 2019 album “No U Turn” which saw Susan win “Best Performer” at the European Blues Awards and “Best Album Female” at the LA Critics’ Awards.
“Somebody to Love” has intoxicating oxblood vocals and ladyfingers of blackstrap guitar.
While “Dirty Money” (video shared below) is twangy-dirty in style, with some steadfast bass-led thrums and urgent hand-claps of rhythm. The voice is somewhat de-saturated and dry, but the song turns into a splendidly corking crow-hop dance along with those buzzing strings and plenty of adamant attitude.
And “Wait” is a traditional roots-blues number with a nippy riff and affirmative vocals. The guitar work is assured & snappy in fleetness and beautiful in its flexible elasticity.
