The five-piece hard melodic-rock act GIN ANNIE from Wolverhampton, England who became the HRH Highway to Hell winners in 2018, are justifiably celebrated for what we have described as “sonic awesomeness, cogitating vocals, a deliberately unrushed pace and a gradually building sense of buzzing excitement…”
For example, we described the January single “Devil in Me” from the Black Country lads, David Foster (vocals); Byron ‘Beej’ Garbett (guitars); Brian Green (guitars); Phill ‘Hammer’ Burrows (bass); and Lewis ‘The Kid’ Turner (drums) as “a radiant shimmer of hope and impulse [with] torrid guitars that zing with compulsion while the voice is ultra-coercive…”
This week they release a catapulting new, single titled, ‘Jealousy’ which will coincide with a 11-date headline tour, dubbed “ Gin Annie – The Next Chapter UK Tour…” (dates shown on tour poster, below).
The song is a vigorously declarative hustle with a chorus that’s not dissimilar to Alanis Morissette’s gutsy anthem “You Oughta Know” (whether by accident, or perhaps by design?!?) though, of course, the Gin Annie number is pumped with masculinized tonicity, and although the feel is not exactly glowering, it’s certainly rueful.
About the new song, Gin Annie says, “’Jealousy’ hits hard musically and also in its subject matter. Jealousy is something everybody has to deal with and in our opinion it’s the most toxic substance on the planet.”
“We wanted to make the song an anthem for people about rising above it, whether that’s from a relationship point of view or just general life.”
“Due to COVID restrictions,” they add, “the track was actually produced remotely by Nick Brine (Oasis, The Darkness, Seasick Steve, Bruce Springsteen, KT Tunstall, Arctic Monkeys) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, The Rolling Stones, The Pixies). Nick nailed it in the very first mix and brought out the very best in us without a doubt and the mastering was really the icing on the cake.”
