Following their February 2023 UK tour supporting Robert Jon & The Wreck, rising Canadian southern soul, roots ‘n’ rock band BYWATER CALL will release their highly anticipated new single “Sweet Maria” on Wednesday July 26th. The single is available on all streaming platforms right now.
“Sweet Maria” is Bywater Call’s first brand-new single following their highly anticipated sophomore album “Remain” that was released in September 2022.
The group, which was founded in 2017, is spearheaded by vocalist Meghan Parnell and guitarist Dave Barnes and has been nominated for numerous Blues Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and Best Female Vocalist for the 2023 Awards Season.

The band have accomplished comprehensive European tours recently, and have performed on the mainstage at the renowned blues festival Moulin Blues in the Netherlands.

The release of “Sweet Maria” coincides with Bywater Call’s impending UK and European tour dates in September and October. From October 8 to 13, the band is on a UK tour. Check the poster (below the videoi) for dates near you.
“Sweet Maria” is an upbeat New Orleans blues and southern soul hymn that honours the proverb “if you love something, set it free.” The song is also a reminder to love and accept others as they are. As the seasons change, a lady is tempted to go, yet always finds her way back to the guy, who waits, arms extended, in hopeful rediscovery.
The syncopated melody struts the boardwalk like a goodtime gal in a ruffled skirt and clicketyclack heels, accompanied by funky-electric keyboard kibbles. The voice is sincere & self-reflective, never laboured yet torn by emotion, and the fluid guitar is sophisticated and heartfelt. This is fabulously perceptive.
