Far Journey For ELLES

ELLES BAILEY has released a one-off, standalone single— the artist’s take on one of her favourite tracks: ‘Long Road Ahead’ by the Sixties/Seventies Stax blues ‘n’ soul recording duo (later Elektra and Apple) Delaney & Bonnie, a number first found on their 1971 album, Motel Shot, and co-written with the Derek and the Dominos bassist Carl Radle.

This song is about aspiration, determination, and having the fortitude to overcome obstacles…

Before the verse comes down to its intent and purpose, there is a sparkling irridesence of swirling organ. This song is about aspiration, determination, and having the fortitude to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of our noblest goals. Thereby, a sensitive, subtle, and buttery magnolia vocal is produced.

Delaney & Bonnie together

I’m a big Delaney and Bonnie fan,” Elles explains, “and this song really resonates with me as I travel in this musical journey: there’s a long road ahead, and a lot to leave behind...“

What’s funny is I couldn’t find the lyrics anywhere so for the second verse: I’ve just had to guess at them!

I reckon this recording is wild, showing my band at their best. It’s a one-take track that’s edgy, slightly uncontrolled but has a real sense of excitement with it. I’m loving playing it live too!

Elles’ rendition of the song stays loyal to the original while incorporating her own elegant style, her band’s zest towards performing it, and a renovated second verse.
