With a combined musical legacy spanning over 50 years, guitar icons Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have joined forces for an exciting new collaboration: the SATCHVAI Band.

By intertwining their distinctive artistic chemistry, their combined technical mastery, and an instinct for genius that hints at limitless possibilities, these two guitar super-giants create a magical blend of jazzy, yet constantly approachable, mostly instrumental rock.

Now, at last, Joe and Steve have finally made a full record together. The Sea of Emotion, the debut studio album from SatchVai, will be released on November 6, 2026, via earMUSIC

The SatchVai story began in 1973 on Long Island, New York, when a 13-year-old Steve Vai started taking guitar lessons from a 17-year-old Joe Satriani. Neither could have known where that shared obsession with six strings would lead. More than five decades later, after establishing individual solo careers and sharing stages around the globe through the legendary G3 tours, they have brought their shared history together onto one sensational album.

arena-sized, hyper-galvanic energy that delivers mammoth slabs of ardent and incendiary impetus…

“We’ve been planning this since 1973,” Vai suggests. “… unconsciously.”

The album came together after a G3 reunion tour created an unexpected opening in their schedules. What began as a simple idea to record a single track quickly expanded when Satriani sent Vai two finished pieces, “The Sea of Emotion, Part 1” and “Part 2” and Vai knew immediately that the time had come to complete their synergy.

Beginning (perhaps like the creation of the world itself) with “Mayhem,” we witness eruptive squirts of guitar, wallowing waters, slowly building rocky structures, abstract blurts of ice and fire, and the earliest signs of the biological building blocks taking shape in roiling seas. This is a stunning opening exposition!

“Bronco Freight Train” rattles relentlessly along rusty tracks. This track is pleasingly dark and heavily rockified, so is sure to delight thrash metal fans, while maintaining a languid yet affable jazzy-progressive vibe that will charm followers of early Steven Wilson or the best of Dream Theater.

“I Wanna Play My Guitar” (video shared below) combines elements of hard rock, roly-poly blues, and arena-sized, hyper-galvanic energy … to deliver mammoth slabs of ardent and incendiary impetus. Featuring the celebrated voice of Glenn Hughes and a top-notch rhythm section, this track stands as a vibrant tribute to zesty rock guitar, capturing the spirit of classic, everlasting song-writing.

“The Sea of Emotion (Part 1)” is perhaps the ultimate crystallization of everything SatchVai conjures. The piece begins with an upbeat march before giving way to a darker melody filled with beautifully nuanced work that feels simultaneously light and airy. Brimful of saffron nuances and zing-filled impetus, the piece leads seamlessly into the panache and prestige of twin-lead glory. This is deftness to the power of infinity!

The Sea of Emotion is a highly virtuosic, multidimensional production that explores the symbiotic interconnectedness of two masters through some superbly interwoven textures, bringing the audience unfeigned perceptivity. Worth many, many repeated listens!
