The sun shines on Brighton… The Great Escape 2015 Full Festival Review Day Two

The Great Escape Brighton (UK) Full Festival Review DAY TWO 15th May 2015.

Remarkable! The sun shines on Brighton as we wake up for DAY TWO.

Sasha Siem - Heartfelt and beguiling
Sasha Siem – Heartfelt and beguiling

First, we ramble happily down to the Paganini Ballroom to see the Anglo-Norwegian singer/songwriter Sasha Siem (now based in London). This was heartfelt and beguiling music… … an easy way to start the day.

We have been beating on about Manchester all-female band PINS since 2012 and describe them as “Crisp and magical…

They were playing at the Dome Studio Theatre.

Then, after our (first) ice cream on a sunny, happy-dappled pebble beach, we strode the hill to the Brighthelm.

We checked out the incredibly passionate vocals from the extraordinary Glagow talent C Duncan.

His choral pieces were lush, set against gorgeous acoustic guitar.

Then we managed to catch the sexy Latvian hip-hop / pop act Triana Park…

This was down at the Queen’s Hotel.

Agnese Rakovska sparkled as she shimmied.

This was uplifting and enjoyable pop.

The Garden
The Garden

This was followed by a walk into The Garden.

We have been frantically writing about these Orange County twins (Wyatt & Fletcher) for months now.

We recently described their devilish, punkish and salty sounds:

Wallowed jarring, rumble-strips of rhythm that accompany the throaty persuasion of ripening vocals..

It was great to see them live @haunt.

We were also very happy to see C.A.R. at The Albert.

This is the new project from Chloé Raunet, singer of former London cold-wave band Battant. She now writes, composes and produces her own material. She put on a sensational show at The Albert. Alluring, clever and bouncy in all the right places! A stand-out act at this festival.

The other ‘must see’ act of this festival (they all came along together, like London buses) was Aksnes aka AURORA from Bergen.

She told us that she felt nervous, but her voice was a delight. Everyone was talking about this show. For the duration of the weekend. We look forward to seeing more from AURORA and we expect great things over the year ahead.

We completed the day with the experimental soul duo Lion Babe from New York. This act actually reminded us of the 1980’s French synthpop duo Niagara. You will see (and hear) a lot from them very soon, because their Pharrell Williams penned number ‘Wonder Woman’ is going crazy on-line.
