The Louisiana King of Slydeco SONNY LANDRETH — who offers the audience ornate and twisted steel guitar dances, full of blue tones and rock sounds… and whose songs are accompanied by a stimulating husky voice and a guitar technique that is way beyond masterful, will release his new ten-song studio album “Blacktop Run” on 21st February 2020 via Provogue/Mascot Label Group.
“Blacktop Run” follows his previous Grammy nominated album ‘Recorded Live In Lafayette’ (2017) and his back-to-back Blues Music Awards for Best Guitarist and Best Blues Album for ‘Bound by the Blues’ (2015).
Landreth played in Clifton Chenier’s Red Hot Louisiana Band, and also John Hiatt’s band, and with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.
Eric Clapton rates Landreth as one of the most “advanced guitarists” in the world.

The new album is filled with finer acoustic resonator guitar, intersecting bass-lines and plenty of melodicism. We had a listen:
“The Wilds Of Wonder” has a rocky-twang and rumble-road rhythm and is delivered with enough cow-punch to please a hard-working buckaroo any day of the week. Of course, the guitar is decisive and penetrating, while the voice — of wheat and stone-water — is filled with reliable strength.
Title track, “Blacktop Run” is similarly countrified with indefatigable finger-work and a comb-scraping gutsiness that tally-mates with the stubbled vocal. This is an easy canter across the sagebrush asphalt.
While the sensual zydeco undulation of “Lover Dance With Me” features Landreth exchanging his usual glass slide for a tremolo arm and a rotating Leslie speaker cabinet. And “Mule” has a tail rhythm that jounces like prairie grass through a narrative that speaks of unreciprocated love.
Superlative.
This title will be released on February 21, 2020.
