ERJA LYYTINEN — Lockdown Live 2020

Finnish slide guitar heroine ERJA LYYTINEN, whom we have consistently praised and whose melody-rich studio album “Another World” we described as “slickalicious in its elegance [with] precision, slitherclaw, guitar-eloquence...” will release her ‘Lockdown Live 2020’ as an album CD and DVD package on Friday 6 November 2020

Erja decided she wanted to give her fans the best and most concert-like experience possible.

So when the opportunity arose, she headed to Bluesounds Studios in her hometown of Kuopio, Finland, to record and film the album / live concert.

Lockdown Live 2020 – Canyoneering guitars & bold feistiness in every sizzle…

The concert was streamed over the internet as part of a pay-per-view event and now forms the basis of this remarkable live studio album.

This live recording is a look back at Lyytinen’s long and successful career.

And with such a vast backlog behind her, Erja was literally “torn” between the songs to include on her set list and the subsequent concert album.

Black Ocean” is an intoxicating spectacle and “Snake in the Grass” is like climbing an indulgently impassioned rock candy ridge with canyoneering guitars and bold feistiness in every sizzle.

While “Rocking Chair” is an electric blues track that sounds as if it was influenced by Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” and brings darkly distorted bass lines and a cheeky vocal that flies along the brink of the fiery guitar work we’ve come to expect…

The balladic “Torn” is a swish tearjerker and the gentle “Wildflower” (see below) is like wavelets on Bothnia Bay.

Yes, this is an awakening. From the certain spiritualization of that badass guitar to the clever and knowing lyrics, and all the elegance in between, this is consummate blues accomplishment

Erja has rescheduled her 2020 UK tour to February 2021 and will perform joint headliner shows with Chantel McGregor at the 100 Club, London (Feb 5), Brudenell Social Club in Leeds (Feb 6) and The Stables, Milton Keynes (Feb 7).
