South London three-piece electro pop outfit SYKES launched their new single ‘Best Thing’ last night at the Old Blue Last, London.
We had a listen:
An immense thunderclap of cardboard drums alerts us.
The vocal is pure sweet amethyst.
Cruel violet, with a hint of green envy and as cool and hard as a Siberian winter.
The synths jolt and spasm.
Magnetic surges will whiplash your mind and send it out-of-spin long enough to open-up your neurons.
But the song is poppy as well, slightly reminiscent of Echosmith’s ‘Cool Kids’ (but with a softer, Goulding-like voice).
This is honey and tonic synth-pop — sprinkled with muscular tension from the synths and ornamented with crushed petal vocals…
