Following his fifth studio album in 2014 and extensive worldwide touring, the Nashville based Pope began recording new music written on the road with his favourite Brooklyn-based musicians who later too the name The Nighthawks.
We had a listen:
Southern Cross has jagged edges and simpering guitars. The influence of the country is certainly clear-as-day light, with a gentle rhythm that motivates the sing-along voice.
Ain’t No Angel has that passionate vocal we have come to expect from Pope, and some sublimely picked strings. This is disarmingly sentimental with the most rousing chorus we heard for a long time.
