Old-school rock is back… and it gets a contemporary twist from the sensational British hard-rock outfit — 10 GAUGE.
Musically and sonically, 10 GAUGE return to the rhetoric and style of the late 1980’s & early 1990’s to play their exciting brand of rock with the same dedication and inner strength as bands like Metallica, Megadeth and, of course, Iron Maiden
Sharing a stylistic palette with modern alternative hitters Black Stone Cherry (and with a hint of Alter Bridge’s arena rock sound), the creative direction of their new EP titled Rain’s Comin’ is described best by the band, who say: “We wanted to give a positive twist to the concept of approaching rain. Sometimes a deluge is needed to eliminate the old and replace it with the new…”
“Rain washes away the dirt and brings vitality, freshness and, of course, life. This is an idea we wanted to capture in our debut EP.”
“We have five songs, written over five years — five quarters, no cents, five in the eye: it’s a collection of five hard-hitting belters that will get people to take notice!”
Produced by Wes “Wesonator” Maebe at Monnow Valley Studio, RAIN’S COMIN’ is filled with carbide-strength, armour-piercing riffs, hammer-blow drums and intensely emotional voices; all linked to the close-knit work ethic of the band — always organized — forever connected.
“Your Own Flood” is hot and funky with boss-man riffs, cynically mocking voices and spools of flaming-golden guitar.
“Big Shot” is an amiable, tractable caress that recalls the Stadium Arcadium days of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Here, the confidant “Teen Spirit” riff is intense and blues-funky, while the rhythm and vocals remain mature and fluid.
“Hand You’re Dealt” is a delicious ballad of hand-woven power. The voice is dramatic, but free from any harshness, and here Rob’s performance brings to mind a young Axl Rose.
“Dirty ‘Lil Rich Girl” has a determined groove, an explosion of unadulterated emotion, and a sepulchre of heavy bass notes. This has thunderous rhythms and spicy lyrics.
The furiously smoky guitar on lead song, “Rain’s Comin” creates an initial state of turmoil. Then a delicious riff is prepared and this motors the piece, much like a Pontiac Firebird might do, powering at full speed down the Santa Ana highway, with a crazy razorback in the back seat.
