After releasing an unprecedented six albums in just under two years, British slide guitarist, composer and producer TROY REDFERN’s new album The Wings of Salvation was his most compelling to date. The album showcased Redfern’s intensely saw-edged vocal performance, his condensed and urgent songwriting style, his precise arrangements, and of course, his amazing flashover, pyrotechnical style of slide-guitar play —filled with blatant honesty ‘n’ sandpaper distinctness.
When describing Redfern’s magical musicianship, we have said his giddy sounds contain “the inevitable shake ‘n’ rattle of loose rivets, the gleam of hub-plate glare, and the general buzz of ragged-iron ferriferousness…”
And now, hot from winning Hard Rock Hell’s “Blues Artist of the Year” and having The Wings of Salvation featured in Rock and Blues Muse’s “Top 25 Albums of 2022,” the straddling guitar-shooter has released a brand-new single titled The Fever.
The Fever will appear on Troy’s forthcoming album, due for release later in 2023.
The Fever was produced by Dave Marks (who also plays bass), and features Paul Stewart on drums. The single was mixed by Jo Webb (Simon McBride, Marc Almond.)
“The plan for The Fever was to make something bigger and ballsier than what has come before,” says Redfern. “I also wanted to expand the musical landscape with new colours and sonic horizons.”
Thus, the number seems constructed from ferruginated pushrods of patinated power, and it demonstrates truly lusty energy and bold filthy clout. It grumbles like some rotten but well-beloved rat-rod on a beblotched highway.
This is where you will find boogie blues. On this feverish road. This is where you find those juddering riffs that make you feel alive! And the song also offers all the gritty singability you need. Position this (in your mind) between Chuck Berry’s early boogaloo-swing and glam Groover era T.Rex, 1973.
The new single follows the news of Redfern’s co-headline April 2023 UK Tour with The Commoners. Tickets are available via Planet Rock’s 48-hour ticket pre-sale from Wednesday January 11th.. Tickets go on general sale on Friday January 13th from https://troyredfern.com/dates
