We’ve been fans of Y G H D [pronounced “Younghood”] since Velvet and thought their aching heart single ‘White Eyes’ [2015] was “openly fabulous” … so we’re pleased that the four-piece indie rockers from Kingston, Surrey — have released a fresh new EP “Beautiful Mess” EP via GIRL Records.

The band, with Joe Sharman on lead vocals and guitar, Jack Gee on guitars and backing vox, Sean Bowen on drums and Charles King on bass the band offers up an explosive blend of atmospheric voices set in nostalgic suburban environments with generous guitars and spectacular, rousing choruses.
For example, “Sugar” [shared below] has spiky guitars, military drums, and the kind of overwhelming ascension that instantly reveals the filamentary nature of their multi-layer refrains and their passionate lyrics.
Tender songs — with naked cores — that expose truth and dreams.
